COMPETITION RULES
Be sure to go through all the rules before you enter the Competition
ABOUT ENTERING
Closing date is 3 May 2023 at 8am
No late entries will be accepted
All entries must be submitted online
Schools may contact us for assistance with Bulk Submissions
Only one entry and one artwork per person
No group entries
All entries received on or before 30 March 2023 will go into a lucky draw for “Early Bird” prizes
ARTWORK CRITERIA
Original
All entries must be the artist’s own work
Copying from the internet (or other sources) and passing someone else’s work as one’s own is a serious offence leading to disqualification. Simply redrawing a picture, making only small changes (for example changing the colour) is considered copying.
If inspired by another artist’s work, images should be changed by at least 75% to not be considered copying.
Creative
Direct reproductions of well-known Mathematical pictures or concepts without the artist’s own interpretation or ideas will not qualify.
Handmade
The artwork itself may not be a photograph
The artwork may not be computer-generated or digitally enhanced
ARTWORK SPECS
Minimum size of artwork is A4 (21 x 29 cm)
Maximum size A2 (42 x 59 cm).
The artwork must be mostly two-dimensional.
If relief work is used it may be no thicker than 2 cm.
Any medium may be used
No name of entrant or school may appear on the front of the artwork.
Artworks may not contain threatening, or abusive material.
The physical, original artworks of the top selected entries will be requested to be sent to Gqeberha for the final judging round. These should be kept safe and unaltered until May 2023.
PHOTO IMAGE SPECS
The photograph of the artwork must be clear and in focus, taken in natural light
The full artwork must appear in the photo.
No background, faces, fingers or hands holding the artwork should be visible
No editing of the photograph will be accepted.
Photographs should be in file types JPG or PNG
A cellphone with a 5-megapixel camera or greater should be used.
Photo images may not exceed 5 Mb in size
ANSWERS TO THE 3 QUESTIONS
The answers to the questions must be a minimum of 50 words and a maximum of 100 words in length. (Please note: if the system fails to accept your submission, it could be because you have not fulfilled the specified word count)
Answers should be in the entrants own words
Entrants may express themselves in the official language of their choice.
LEGAL STUFF
The judge's decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
The GMMDC holds unrestricted rights to use any of the artworks or images thereof for purposes that will support STEAM education in South Africa.
The Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPI Act) was implemented on 1 July 2020. Any information that you provide that identifies you shall be treated in accordance with this statute and only used for academic and academic administration purposes as indicated in the Nelson Mandela University Privacy Policy.
